Attend a CAN of Monroe County Event!

Dear Monroe County Friend,

The month of April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and I am pleased to announce that the Child Advocacy Network (CAN) of Monroe County is sponsoring Pinwheel for Prevention "Garden” planting events across the county to highlight and support prevention and awareness of child abuse. As a community friend and partner, I am cordially inviting you to attend the Annual Pinwheel for Prevention Garden Kick-Off event on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. at The Monroe County Department of Health and Human Services.  At this event, we will plant 477 pinwheels to represent each child that was confirmed abused or neglected in Monroe County in 2018.  The Monroe County Department of Health and Human Services is located at 903 S. Telegraph, Monroe, Michigan 48161.

There will also be five additional Pinwheel for Prevention Garden Planting events during the month of April.
Listed below are the dates, times, and locations:

April 09, 2019   Saint Mary's Grade School at 9:00 a.m.
April 10, 2019    Village of Dundee at 8:30 a.m.
April 11, 2019    YMCA of Monroe at 5:30 p.m.
April 12, 2019    Monroe County Courthouse at 8:15 a.m.
April 12, 2019    Bedford Library at 11:00 a.m.

Thank you to several of our local community agencies, public libraries and schools, there will be over 100 pinwheel gardens planted in Monroe County.  These gardens are sponsored by The Child Advocacy Network of Monroe County (CAN), the local prevention council, along with Children’s Trust Fund (CTF).

The pinwheel is a national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention because it is reflective of the bright future all children deserve. The actions we take to promote healthy child development are the very actions that help prevent child abuse and neglect. These Gardens will help to increase knowledge of child abuse and neglect prevention and generate greater awareness of the CAN organization; therefore, we encourage everyone to participate in these local events. For more information, and to become involved in planting Pinwheel Gardens throughout Monroe County during April, please e-mail me at cancouncilmonroe@gmail.com. I look forward to seeing you at one or all of these important events.

Sincerely,

Katie J. Demers
